Dear Parents/Guardians:
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) will be offering its first Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) Camp, a three week day camp for elementary school students currently in grades 3-5. This is an all day commuter program.
NSBE has designed the SEEK Camp to be a fun and engaging educational experience for all students. The overall goal of the camp is to show students what engineering is about and give them additional skills and confidence in math and science. The inaugural camp will take place at the Woodridge Campus of FPCS (2959 Carlton Street, NE) July 9-27, 2007. This
enrichment program is available for all students who are not required to attend summer school.
Through this program each student will:
Increase their knowledge in math, science, and technology through engagement in interactive, team based activities designed around math and science educations standards
Have greater knowledge of and interest in science, technology, engineering and math
Know how to learn
Have a NSBE member as a mentor for the camp duration
Have greater knowledge of past and present engineering giants
Develop greater communication skills (written and oral) as well as presentation skills
Have a positive self image
Have a positive image of an engineer
Develop problem solving skills, thus providing a leg up on their academic pursuits for the upcoming school year and beyond
